Gita Press, Gorakhpur to receive Gandhi Peace Prize, 2021

The Gita Press, Gorakhpur, is being conferred with the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021. Congratulating the publisher, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and said that Gita Press has been doing a commendable job for the last 100 years towards furthering social and cultural transformations among people. PM Modi also recalled the contributions of the Gita Press in promoting the Gandhian ideals of peace and social harmony.

He also expressed that felicitating the Gita Press with the Gandhi Peace Prize, 2021, on completion of 100 years of the publishing house’s establishment, is a recognition of the work done by the institution in community service.

The jury, headed by PM Modi, after due deliberations, unanimously chose the Gita Press to be conferred with the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2021. The award will be given to Gita Press in recognition of its outstanding contribution to social, economic and political transformation through non-violent and other Gandhian methods.

The Gandhi Peace Prize is an annual award instituted by the government in 1995, on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of MK Gandhi. It is a tribute to the ideals espoused by him. The award is open to all persons regardless of nationality, race, language, caste, creed or gender. The award carries an amount of one crore rupees, a citation, and a plaque.
