Manipur Police recovers arms, nab eight persons

Imphal: Police have nabbed eight persons, destroyed poppy plantation, recovered arms in separate operations in Manipur.

Police said operations were launched on Wednesday and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition including 51 mm Mortar Tube Launcher, SLR , Sniper Rifle, 40 mm Lathode Shell.

A joint team of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, Forest Department and Executive Magistrate conducted poppy destruction on Wednesday at Haopi Mallen Hill range under Sangaikot-PS, Churachandpur district and a total of 4.8 acres were destroyed.

In connection with an incident of abduction of one Md Nawash from his house at Imphal on Tuesday for ransom by suspected members of AT, who was later brought dead on Wednesday in Thoubal District hospital, Manipur Police has arrested the six suspects.

AT however in a statement denied their involvement in the incident.

Manipur Police arrested two active members of KCP (PWG).
