Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Tuesday said that militancy is down but not completely wiped out from here.

Talking to media persons on the sidelines at the culmination of J&K Police Martyr’s 19th Football Tournament final in Srinagar, the DGP said “militancy is not completely wiped out from the soil but there are some elements who are still trying to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir”.

Singh was reacting to the 25-year-old Army man identified as Javed Ahmad, resident of Asthal Kulgam, who is missing. The family fears that he might have been kidnapped.

“We are taking very stringent measures against the elements who are trying to disturb the peaceful environment in Jammu and Kashmir”, the DGP said.

“The soldier who went missing, Police, Army and other forces are on the job and we hope he will be alright”, he said and added “so far we have not achieved any solid achievement in this case so that we could know the actual ground position”.

“We have got some vital leads in this case and police are doing their job alongwith other forces’ ‘, the DGP said and added “We will reach out to the bottom of the case shortly. It would be premature to comment further on the matter as investigations are in full swing,”.

Singh said that there is some presence of foreign militants in south Kashmir and they are being tracked down.

He said number of militants are at an all time low in Jammu and Kashmir
