PM visits LK Advani as the veteran leader turns 95

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the home of BJP stalwart Lal Krishna Advani and greeted the veteran leader on his 95th birthday on Tuesday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also visited Advani and wished him a good health and long life.

“I went to the residence of respected Advaniji and wished him a very happy birthday. I pray to God for his good health and long life,” the Defence Minister wrote on Twitter.

Besides, Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also wished Lal Krishna Advani on his birthday.

“Happy birthday to respected LK Advani ji. On one hand, Advani ji strengthened the organization across the country with his continuous hard work, he made invaluable contribution to the development of the country while being in the government on the other. I pray to God for his good health and long life,” Shah said in a tweet.

External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, who is on a two day Moscow visit, also sent out greetings to Lal Krishna Advani on his birthday.

“Recall the impact of Jan Chetna Yatra which Shri LK Advani ji undertook against blackmoney.

Greeting respected Advani ji on his birthday. Carrying forward this commitment, PM Narendra Modi ji has also taken several steps to bring transparency in governance,” said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a tweet.

Lal Krishna Advani was born in 1927 in Karachi. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at a young age and displayed remarkable organisational skills.

He was a founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980 and remained its prominent face along with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for decades.

The Rath Yatra in 1990 in support of the Ram temple in Ayodhya is widely considered as the principle reason for emergence of right wing politics in the country.
