Women wearing bindis being attacked in USA

A new trend of hate crimes can be witnessed emerging in the USA, and in many states, south Asian, especially Hindu women are being attacked on the streets, and the cases of looting them have increased as well. This year, till now, in California alone, more than 25 Hindu women have been attacked. The women who were attacked were either wearing a saree or a bindi. The local police have categorized cases like these as hate crimes.

The situation has turned so grave that the police have appealed to Indian women not to wear gold chains and carry purses when moving out of their houses. They have added that if it is possible, then the women should carry small purses rather than large ones. As per California police, the attackers are intentionally targeting women wearing sarees and bindis.

As a result of the increase in such hate crimes against Hindu women, they have, in the USA, almost completely stopped dressing up and moving out of their houses, and going to public places. They are donning jewellery only in private functions or parties. They are also majorly targeted for the jewellery because the thieves then melt the jewellery, as a result of which the chances of them being caught get reduced. Most of the cases of attacks and loots are being reported from markets and residential areas.
