A video of policemen in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, throwing the dead body of a man, who became the victim of a road accident, into a river, rather than taking it for a postmortem at the hospital, has gone viral on social media. It was in the Fakuli area of Muzaffarpur where an unidentified man lost his life in a road mishap on National Highway 22. The victim was run over by an unidentified truck.

After the accident, policemen arrived on the scene and rather than taking the dead body to a hospital for its autopsy, they simply disposed of the body by throwing it inside the river, using sticks to push it from the bridge, down into the waterbody.

After the video of this highly condemnable action of the policemen went viral on social media, the police retrieved the corpse late at night, and sent it for a postmortem examination. It was in another video that the police’s retrieval of the dead body was also recorded. The victim’s identity has not been revealed yet.

While the viral video clearly shows what the policemen did with the dead body of the accident victim, the police claimed that the body was sent for an autopsy and only the parts of it which were stuck on the road were removed and disposed of in the river.

Suspending and terminating the three police personnel who were captured in the viral video, an official release from the Muzaffarpur SSP Office said, ‘The video was examined and found genuine. It is really sad that such an incident has happened and the police failed to perform their duty. The constable has been suspended and two home guard jawans have been terminated.’
