August witnesses record sales of electric vehicles

The month of August saw the record sales of electric vehicles, better known as EVs. As per the government portal for vehicles dashboard, a total of 85, 911 registrations for EVs were made in the last month. While in July, a total of 77, 686 EVs were sold. Last year, the month of August had recorded 29, 127 EVs sold. Looking at this trend, we see that on a monthly basis, the sales of EV increased 11% and on a yearly basis, it augmented around three times.

This year, the sale of EVs increased every month since May and in August, 5% of these vehicles were electric cars. According to EV Port Electric Edge, a total of 4, 331 electric cars were sold in August, out of which 3, 845, that is, 88% of the cars were sold by Tata Motors alone. At the second position was MG Motors with the sale of 308 electric cars; Hyundai sold 67 such cars.

If we look at the statistics from JMK Research, the sale of electric two-wheelers in the month of August increased 13% on the monthly basis and on the yearly basis, the sale increased 3.5 times. A total of 51, 500 registrations for E-two-wheelers were made. In comparison, July saw the sale of 45, 560 E-two-wheelers. Back in August 2021, 14, 700 such two-wheelers were sold.

As per the Vehicle Dashboard, Hero Electric performed the best in this sector with the sale of 10, 479 E-two-wheelers in August. Okinawa stood at the second spot with 8, 557 registrations, followed by Ampere Vehicles with 6, 399 sales. Ether Energy bagged the fourth spot with 5, 258 units sold.
