As per the National Health Accounts statistics of the NITI Ayog, issued on Monday, the per-capita expenditure on healthcare in the country has marked an increase. Back in 2013-14, the central government was spending 1042 Rs per person, and in 2018-19, the amount augmented to Rs. 1815.
According to the report, the per-capita expenditure on healthcare increased 74% in 2018-19, as compared to 2013-14. Back in 2013-14, the expenditure on healthcare facilities made 1.15% of the GDP, and in 2018-19, it reached 1.28%, although it was less than 2017-18, which was 1.35% of the country’s GDP. In 2013-14, the government’s share in healthcare expenses was 28.6%, which reached 40.6%, recording an increase of 12% in 2018-19. The central government’s share augmented in the primary health sector too, from 4.1% to 55.2%. This was the highest in 5 years.
The government has also reduced the expenditure additional to the health budget, in 2013-14, the per-capita additional expenditure was 2, 336 Rs., which fell down to 2, 155 Rs. in 2018-19.
Along with this, the government’s expenditure on people’s health insurances has increased a whopping 167% in these 5 years. While the government had spent Rs. 4, 757 crores on health insurances in 2013-14, it spent 12, 680 crores in 2018-19. According to NHA, the health-related assistance provided to the country dwindled from 2.3% in 2004-05 to 0.4% in 2018-19, which highlights the country’s economic strength and development.
