All around the globe, it is being thought as to how many days should be the minimum to work on. A pilot project on working 4 days a week rather than the traditional 5 is being carried out in the USA, and startling results have come out after the number of working days have been reduced in people’s lives. It has been found that people are utilizing the extra time received to get a sound sleep. Boston College’s economist and sociologist, Juliet Schor has said that their group tracked 180 organizations on a global level, which are following the 4-day week policy at work for the last 6 months.
The study of 16 companies revealed that rather than going out or meeting friends and relatives and spending time with them, employees are using the additional free time received to sleep more. Now, they are sleeping for 8 hours instead of 7. Schor added that even she is surprised about the difference emerged so quick and at such a large scale. Earlier, 42.6% people slept for less than 7 hours, now, the amount of people sleeping less has been reduced to 14.2% only.
The idea of reducing the number of workdays in a week have been the talk of the town recently, with many people raising their voices in its support, aiming for a better work-life balance.
