More investors in mutual funds than FDs

For the first time in the country, the number of people investing in mutual funds has crossed that of the people who went for fixed deposits (FDs). 57% of the people who participated in the latest survey conducted by Bank Bazaar revealed that they had invested in mutual funds this year. While 54% said that they had saved through FDs. More than 20% opted for both the methods of saving. Most of the people who invested in an FD aged more than 35 years.

Most of those who invested in mutual funds age between 22 and 34. 67% of the people aged above 35 who participated in the survey said that they had opted for an FD, and 59% of the employed youth aged between 22 and 27 years, prioritized an investment through mutual funds. The highest 67% of the people who trust mutual funds as a way to invest, are from the northeastern states of India, and 65% of them are from north Indian states like Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab.

As per the survey report, the saving pattern among women has changed rapidly as well, and the difference started emerging after the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, 60% of the women who made investments said that they had invested in SIPs. On the other hand, the average of men investing in SIPs is 55%. Till 3 years ago, the average of women investing in SIPs was less than 40%.
