Humans are social animals, this is something which we have been taught since childhood, and recent research has shown that maintain cordial relations with your neighbours helps increase your life span. As per Rutgers University research, our health improves with feeling connected with our neighbours. Living alone impacts our mind negatively, and strong relations with neighbours reduce the feeling of loneliness, which results in the reduction of death rates.

As per Pew Research Centre, around 27% of people aged 60 or above in the USA live alone, which adversely impacts their physical and mental health. Such people, usually, fall prey to ailments like depression, heart illness, dementia, irregular body clocks, and even untimely death, and in the wake of this situation, research was conducted to reduce these effects. Death rates among those who live alone and do not talk to people around are 48.5% higher than those who live around other people.

On the other hand, death rates among those who live alone but maintain cordial relations with neighbours were same as the people who lived around other people.
