Himachal Pradesh floods: PM Modi assures state of full support

On Monday, July 10, in the wake of the perilous floods which have ravaged the state of Himachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, to address the rampant and extensive damages caused by the incessant heavy rainfall and floods in the northern state. The Prime Minister has assured CM Sukhu of the Union Government’s endless support in overcoming the crisis, and beginning with the recovery process.

The incessant heavy rainfall and floods, and landslides in the state of Himachal Pradesh, are repeating what happened back in 2013 in the state of Uttarakhand, with havoc unleashed in the state, a lot of destruction has already taken place. CM Sukhu apprised PM Modi of the fact that the state’s infrastructure has suffered colossal damage, with the roads, electrical networks, and water supply systems succumbing to nature’s wrath. Till now, the natural calamity has claimed the lives of 17 people, and property worth crores has been lost. Viral visuals on social media show how complete houses are getting destroyed and the debris just flows away with the water current.

Looking at the dangerous situation, PM Modi has assured CM Sukhu that the Centre is monitoring closely, the developments, and stands ready to extend all possible support and assistance to Himachal Pradesh. PM Modi also praised the state government’s efforts in providing aid to the affected people. During the phone call between the two, CM Sukhu asked PM Modi for additional assistance, looking at the immense challenges the state is currently facing. And PM Modi pledged a special economic package to assist Himachal Pradesh in its recovery process.

The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister also thanked the Prime Minister for the deployment of the NDRF to assist in the rescue operations.
