Beijing: Beijing welcomes the group of US senators scheduled to visit China next week and hopes their stay will help improve bilateral relations, Chinese Embassy in Washington spokesperson Liu Pengyu told Sputnik.

“China welcomes people from all walks of life in the United States, including members of the Congress, to visit China so as to have a better understanding of China, promote exchanges between the two countries, and inject more positive energy into the China-US relationship,” Liu said in a statement on Monday.

Earlier in the day, US Senator Mike Crapo’s spokesperson confirmed to Sputnik that a bipartisan group of senators will travel to China next week, however, a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping has not been confirmed yet.

According to media reports, the senators want to raise with Xi the problems US microchip company Micron Technology faces operating in China.

In May, China’s Cyberspace Administration announced that Micron Technology would be banned from selling to critical infrastructure operators after it was found to pose a national security risk. China’s Cybersecurity Administration is currently conducting an investigation into the US semiconductor company, according to media reports.
