Jammu: In a first, the Jammu and Kashmir administration under ‘J&K Sports Policy-2022’ will present a special cash award to the medal-winning athletes.

Credible sources in the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council told UNI, “Under the 2022 Sports Policy, the medal winners (national and international) will be presented with the cash award at a ceremony scheduled to be held very soon.”

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also president of the J&K Sports Council, will present the awards at the ceremony.

“The athletes from the years 2021–22 and 2022–23 will be given the cash award for their outstanding performances at national and international levels,” sources said.

The awards, sources said, are already approved by the Lieutenant Governor.

They said that the athletes (around 400) from the disciplines of gymnastics, fencing, wushu, pencak silat, boxing, judo, volleyball, powerlifting, roller skating, and canoeing will be given cash awards.

However, athletes are elated for the ceremony and have welcomed the decision of the administration.

“The date for holding the ceremony is not yet finalized but is expected very soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Srinagar visit,” they added.
