United Nations: A Christmas ceasefire between Moscow and Kiev, proposed by Hungary, could serve as an excellent platform towards a long-term peaceful settlement of the Ukraine crisis, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told RIA Novosti.
“We were right and we are right, that this war doesn’t have a solution on the battlefield, just around the negotiating table, but in order to be able to sit around the negotiating table with the target of finding a long-term solution for peace, you need to have the necessary circumstances, meaning ceasefire. I think that Christmas, which is approaching, could have meant or could have provided a great platform for that, even if just for a couple of days. We could have saved lives of hundreds of thousands, and we would have been able to create a good example,” Szijjarto said.
He noted that Hungary’s task was to make a proposal, but the next steps were up to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“It’s up to his responsibility, and let the Ukrainian people judge his decision,” the Hungarian foreign minister added.
