New Delhi: Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear on April 14 a fresh petition filed by the Delhi Government against the Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor’s (LG) decision for random selection of teacher training programmes in Finland.

A two-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dr Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chadrachud and also comprising Justice Justice J B Pardiwala, said we will hear the petition on April 14.

Delhi Government approached the Supreme Court against the Delhi LG’s decisions, as to which teachers to send, how to send, when to send to Finland for the future teacher’s training programme.

“This is concerning teacher training program,” Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi, senior lawyer appearing for the Delhi Government told the Supreme Court and sought urgent hearing into the matter.

“We will hear this on April 14, 2023,” the CJI Dr Chandrachud said.

The L-G recently had cleared some of the teachers names for the Finland programme but mandated against such exercises in future.

The LG, in its decision, has increased the number of primary in-charges, who were to proceed to Finland for training, from 52 to 87, to ensure equal representation of primary in-charges from all 29 administrative zones of the education department.

“Considering that there are about 450 schools of the Directorate of Education having primary classes, it will only be in the fitness of things that the benefits of the learning from the training are extended, to all the students of primary classes simultaneously,” the LG’s directions said.
