The trend of goat-farming has increased at a great pace during the last 5 years in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan. Less investment and more profits in the same are attracting the youth, as profits can be gained within 7 months of setting the business up. While till now, goat-farming has remained constrained till the buying and selling of goats as the focus has been their meat, but not only that, but goat milk and products made out of goat meat are a huge source of income.

In Rajasthan, there is already a centre made in Bikaner which deals in camel milk and its products. Similarly, goat milk products can generate large amounts of money as well. Dr Praful Mathur, Joint Director, Department of Animal Husbandry, has stated that the demand for goat milk and meat products can provide the opportunity to the youth to come up with new startups. He further added that as per the 2019 animal census, the total number of goats in Ajmer district is 7 lakh 39 thousand and 132, which is an official number.

As per Dr Mathur, 20 types of products can be made out of goat meat. Patties, sausages, nuggets, and cubes made out of goat meat are being made in other states, and their demand can increase in Rajasthan as well. Apart from this, goat meat pickle and biscuits can also be made. Goat milk can be used to produce herbal goat paneer, chips, goat milk balls, and earn good amounts of money.

Goat milk is considered to be better for children and old people, and goat-milk dairies can also be started. In addition to all this, a separate unit to manufacture bathing soaps out of goat milk can be put up. Many other beauty products are made out of milk.

A lot of differences have emerged in the last 3 years and now, apart from the Sirohi and Sojat goats, Hyderabadi and foreign breed Toggenburg have also entered Rajasthan, and their number has easily crossed 20 lakhs now, and with the speed goat farms are increasing in the district, their numbers are expected to augment further.
