In the last decades, the outbreak of heat waves is increasing at an alarming rate, and soon, India will become the first country in the world to face such severe heat waves, which will be intolerable for humans, and this alert has been issued by the World Bank in its latest report. The report will be released at the two-day ‘India climate and development Partners’ meeting, organized by the World Bank in partnership with the Government of Kerala, in Thiruvananthapuram.

The report states that the country is experiencing relatively hot summers, which start early and continue for long periods of time. In April 2022, India fell prey to heat waves before time, during which time, the temperature in New Delhi had peaked to 46 degrees Celsius. In March, the temperatures rose to unexpected levels, which was the hottest month in history.

As per the report, the G20 Climate Risk Atlas, in 2021, had issued a threat stating that if the level of carbon emission remains to be high, then it is expected for heat waves to continue for a duration 25 times higher, in whole of India between 2036 and 2065. It further reveals that in India, 75% of the working population works in such areas, in which they have to live in a hot environment.
