Mexico City: The first decree of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro after his inauguration on January 10 will be the creation of a broad commission to reform the national constitution, Maduro announced at a meeting with the Presidium of the National Assembly.

“On January 10, after taking the obligatory constitutional oath before the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the first decree I will sign will be the establishment of a broad national and international commission to carry out a great constitutional reform. With debate and dialogue of all political, social, cultural and economic sectors of the country,” Maduro said during a meeting with lawmakers broadcast on social media.

He said the constitutional reform must be implemented by the current convocation of the National Assembly within five years of its mandate.
