New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the young voters will play a crucial role in making India a developed nation by 2047 and encourage them to participate in the electoral process.

Addressing the first-time voters via video conferencing during “Namo Navmatdata Sammelan” on “National Voters Day,” Modi said, “Your one vote has a very big power. When there is a stable and full majority government in the country, then the nation can take big decisions.”

National Voters’ Day has been celebrated on January 25 every year to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India.

Its main purpose is to encourage voters to participate in the electoral process.

“Today, when the country is working on the goal of becoming a developed India by 2047, your vote will decide what the direction of India will be,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that “today, people talk about credibility, not corruption; success stories, not scams. Earlier, India was on the list of the five fragile economies. But today, Bharat is the fifth largest economy in the world, adding that in the coming years, India will become the top three economies in the world.”

Raising concern over nepotism in politics, Modi said, “With the power of your vote, you have to defeat ‘parivarwadi’ parties.”

He said, “Earlier, news of corruption and scams used to become headlines every day, and the scams worth crores of rupees were common.

“We are satisfied that we were able to bring the country out of that dark situation. Today it is not about corruption but about credibility,” the PM further added.

Highlighting the development carried out by the government in the last nine years, Modi said that India’s strong infrastructure is proving to be the biggest driver of growth.

“From regional connectivity to communication, from mobile towers to optical fibre networks, from semi-conductors missions to Mission Hydrogen, from the aviation sector to the tourism sector—every transformation taking place in the country is for the youth of the nation, for you!” he said.

The PM noted that on January 22, the government announced a big scheme related to solar. Under this scheme, a target has been set to build solar rooftops in one crore houses in the country.

“This will not only reduce the electricity bill, but the government will also buy the electricity generated,” he said.

Speaking about the importance of a stable government, Modi said, “If there is a stable government, the country takes big decisions, solves the problems that have been pending for decades, and moves forward.”

“Our government, with a full majority, ended decades of waiting by removing Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Our government, with a full majority, ended the four-decade wait of the country’s ex-servicemen by implementing one rank and one pension for army personnel,’ he said.

The Prime Minister addressed lakhs of first-time voters on National Voter’s Day, assembled at around 5,800 places to organise ‘NaMo Nav Matadata Sammelans’ across the country.
