NSG to hold 3-day mock drill from Friday to ward of possible terror attacks

Chennai: With a view to testing the defence preparedness of various security agencies, the National Security Guard (NSG) will conduct a 3-day mock exercise named GANDIV – V simulating various terrorist attacks and response in Chennai from Friday to Sunday (September 15-17, 2023).

In this regard, a Table Top Exercise was held on September 11 at Greater Chennai Police headquarters where participants from NSG and other stake holders participated.

Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police Sandeep Rai Rathore briefed the participants.

Further a second Table Top Exercise is being held at the office of the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, today under the chairmanship of Director General of Police/Head of Police Force Shankar Jiwal.

Police said a Table Top Exercise-II consultation meeting will be held with NSG and representatives from other departments.

This Mock Exercise (GANDIV – V) used to involve attack on 7 High Value Targets simultaneously and Bomb blasts at 3 places one by one.

The other stakeholders including Greater Chennai Police, Tamil Nadu Commando Force, Fire and Rescue services, Greater Chennai Corporations, Revenue and Medical Departments, etc., will co-ordinate in the exercise their role as per SOPs.

The Counter Terrorist (CT) Exercise will commence tomorrow at 1500 hrs and end at 0800 hrs on Saturday.

Counter Hi-Jack (CH) Exercise will commence on Saturday evening at 1800hrs and end at 0600 hrs on Sunday morning.

This Mock Exercises are usually being conducted for the capacity building of Police Force on crisis response.

During the conduct of such Counter Terrorist (CT) and Counter Hi-Jack (CH) Exercises, the Public are requested not to be panic and they may contact Greater Chennai Police Helpline Numbers 100, 101, 112 and 044-23452359 for communicate in this regard.

From 2019 onwards NSG has conducted similar mock exercises at Hyderabad, Amritsar, Gandhinagar, Goa, Guwahati, Bhopal, Trivandrum and this year it is being conducted at Lucknow today.
