As far as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Urban is concerned, the best performance in the country has been recorded by the state of Gujarat; on the other hand, Bihar stands on the other extreme of the performance spectrum.
Out of the total houses sanctioned under the scheme in Gujarat, around 70% of the houses have been constructed completely and in Bihar, a mere 26% of the houses have been built and Bihar is witnessing this condition even when the central government has already allocated 72% of the funds to it for the same.
Under the scheme, the construction of a total of more than 1 crore 22 lakh of houses has been sanctioned but till now, only 62.38 lakh of them have been made. For the c, in all, total allocations of 1 lakh 318 crores have been decided upon while 68 thousand 587 crores have already been allocated.
Even while only 50% of the houses have been constructed, the Centre has released more than 68% of funds to the states and union territories. The target is to complete the construction of 60.31 lakh houses till December, 2024. As per the Housing and Urban Development Ministry, this target can be achieved with ease because construction work of the houses is going on, on a large scale and will be finished soon.
A total of 41 lakh houses was sanctioned in the last two years only, with the most being in Andhra Pradesh but only 26.92% of them have been constructed so far.
