Rain, duststorms likely over Northwest India for next few days: IMD

New Delhi: Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, duststorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely over Northwestern part of the country for the next 4-5 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.

“Under the influence of western disturbance, isolated to scattered light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and winds gusting up to 40 kmph very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi till 8th June,”the IMD said.

The weather department also predicted duststorm over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajsthan during the same period.

Heat wave conditions likely to continue in isolated pockets over parts of east India, Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh during the next 5 days, the IMD said.

On Southwest monsoon, the IMD said, “Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Karnataka, some parts of south Maharashtra, some more parts Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, some parts of south Chhattisgarh and South Odisha, some more parts of Westcentral and Northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 3-4 days.”

Rainfall activity is likely to increase over Konkan and Karnataka coasts with heavy to very heavy rainfall from 08th June as a cyclonic circulation lies over Rayalaseema and neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels and another over Coastal Karnataka & neighbourhood in middle tropospheric levels, the IMD said.

The weather department also predicted a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C over East India during the next 2 days. It added that no significant change is likely over Uttar Pradesh during the next 2 days and rise by about 2°C thereafter.
