Recourse to unpalatable situations needed for discipline, decorum: Jagdeep Dhankar

Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankar, on Monday, July 24, after suspending AAP MP Sanjay Singh, said that recourse to unpalatable situations is needed at times to enforce decorum and discipline. He stated, ‘As chairman of Rajya Sabha, I am working in a manner, using everything under my command to ensure the temple of democracy in the largest democracy, we have decorum, we have discipline.’

‘To enforce decorum and discipline, sometimes we have to take recourse to unpalatable situations. But we must never hesitate because decorum and discipline are connected with our growth, reputation and prosperity.’, he further expressed.

It was earlier on Monday that AAP MP Sanjay Singh was suspended from the Rajya Sabha for the rest of the Monsoon Session for repeatedly violating the directives of the Chair, while protesting and demanding PM Modi to speak on the Manipur violence issue. Following his suspension, the Opposition parties condemned the action against Singh, and then staged a sit-in protest, and accused the government of trying to clampdown their voices.
