On an average, 34% of users on social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, have faced online threats, out of which, the maximum has been reported from Instagram at 38%, 33% have faced the same on Twitter, and 31% have fallen prey to it on Facebook. A survey conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) on 7, 463 people across 19 states has revealed these statistics.
As per the survey results, 52% of social media users are worried because of fake news being peddled on the platforms, while 47% of users have, at least once, been duped because of fake news, and 38% have, unknowingly, shared fake news on social media. Out of whom, people with a college degree or more highly educated are the most at 55%.
The survey further revealed that 33-34% people aged between 15 and 25 years love to watch national news while international news excites the least people- only 7%. 24% of people aged between 45-55 years are more interested in news from their cities or districts. The highest number of people who read news from their district are aged between 36-45 years and make up 33% of the total. Only 3% people aged above 45 years show interest in international news.
47% of south Indians watch television daily, which is the highest in the country, 27% in north India do so, 30% in east India, and 35% of them in western India. With this, 54% of people enjoy watching entertainment channels on television, with news channels bagging the second spot with 24% of people watching them the most, and at the third spot are sports channels with 7% of the viewership.
On news channels, only 12%, which is the least, enjoy watching debate shows, while 49% love to watch news bulletins. 22% people watch serials or movies on TV daily, and surprisingly, 50% people do not watch reality and talent hunt shows at all.
