‘The Hindu’ a popular media house in India has gained much praise and support across the nation but now the editorial seems to have been crossing limits as one article author under column ‘opinion-editorial putting her views says a human being a ‘Virus’.

The event was witnessed two days back when the author at The Hindu Vaishna Roy in her article called a BJP MP from Bengaluru Tejaswi Surya a ‘virus’.

The title of the article was ‘Another Virus’ which was slightly changed by the editors later and was renamed as ‘A battle on another front’. The article sees a billed-up introduction as it reads “As the number of cases piles up and deaths mount, one imagines things couldn’t get worse. But one is wrong. Because, of course, one has forgotten the existence of Tejasvi Surya, the Bhartiya Janata Party’s MP from Bengaluru South.”

The article further read as the author writes “If one thing has stood out this last fortnight amidst the sea of extraordinary lies, denials, and stupidities, it is Surya sinking to a new low of despicability.”

Looking at those harsh words the only thing that filters out is that the author is a staunch avoider of a party followed by the communal hatred she has for ‘Hinduism’ or ‘Hindutva’. Further in her piece, she wrote “For six years now, a section of the educated middle-class has looked the other way when hearing of increasingly aggressive moves from Hindutva’s adherents.” she further quotes Hindus as “lumpen elements”.

Countering Roy’s deed of calling a person and saffron a ‘virus’ the Legal Editor of Goa Chronicle, Shashank Jha put out his opinion saying “It’s high time we should deal with The Hindu firmly.” He further puts his views as it isn’t a decent thing to target a religion and saffron each time and that The Hindu should stop brainwashing the people.

The author hasn’t gained this trolling as of now; she is well known for making such sickening comments on various occasions. A report by Opindia proved it, on June 26, 2019, quoting a tweet of Tejasvi Surya she wrote “Now we young Indians can proclaim our cultural identity by loudly shouting Jai Shri Ram and lynching Muslims. Egged on by proud young Indians like this man and by our proud new TV channels.”

On Feb 5, 2020 replying to former NDTV journalist Nidhi Razdan calling her ‘fascism enabler’ on inviting a BJP MP to her show, said she (Nidhi) was doing fascism enabling clickbait journalism at its worst and was ‘beyond shocked’ on giving a ‘liberal platform’ to the BJP MP to repeat his hate speech.

The same day she was seen agreeing with Rana Ayyub on saying India a ‘morally corrupt nation’ and came out defending Rana’s statement when she was trolled.

On March 30, 2020 she opined Narendra Modi to have a “sad trivial obsession with the comfortable middle class.”

On August 13, she tweeted her wish for India to face the same as Beirut blast in Lebanon last year.

Countering her own statement on august 19, 2020 she gave out a ‘clarification,’ on her previous tweet as she said “I was lamenting the reluctance of those in office to own similar moral responsibility for administrative failures.”

With her sheer disgrace towards a party and Narendra Modi, she has been sighted mocking them both for years. One of her articles in the past years was titled “Is BJP’s Tejasvi Surya a younger Narendra Modi?’

Despite her disgrace towards a particular section of the nation, a party, and persons, she continues to deliver hate speech from a platform provided by one of the mainstream media.

Looking at her sickening comments for many in the previous years, it wasn’t any surprise to see her go to a level unimagined such that she calls a person a ‘virus’ and that the mainstream media should be decent towards society and stop being a platform for those who are communalizing and playing their part to divide the nation into two.
