New Delhi/Washington: The US has said it views its relationship with India as “one of the most consequential relationships” in the world and that US Ambassador Eric Garcetti will be leading an “ambitious effort” to deepen ties with India in various fields, including critical and emerging technologies, defence cooperation, economic and people-to-people.

White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre, asked what is the presidential message that Ambassador Garcetti is carrying for the people of India, said:

“Look, this is something that I’ve said from here, that the President has said: When we look at the relationship with India, it’s one of the most consequential relationships that the United States has in the world. And that still stands.

“And Ambassador Garcetti will be leading an ambitious effort to deepen our cooperation with India in critical and emerging technologies, expand our defense cooperation, and strengthen our economic and people-to-people ties.

“Again, one of the most consequential relationships that we have, in the United States in the world. That the United States has in the world. So, it’s an important relationship that the President sees.”

Last month, India had welcomed the confirmation of former Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti as the US’ Ambassador to India and said it looks forward to working with him to take forward the multi-faceted bilateral ties.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said in his briefing: “We welcome the confirmation of Mr Eric Garcetti as Ambassador to India and we look forward to working with him to take forward our multi-faceted bilateral relations.”
