Time to bring back Cong govt in Haryana: Surjewala

Kaithal: The time has come to bring back a Congress government in Haryana to restart development and stop corruption fuelled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, said Congress leader Randeep Surjewala at an event where Sarpanches and Panches of 32 villages of Kaithal Assembly segment offered him support, a leader said on Monday.

Those who joined the Congress and extended support to Surjewala at the event at Kisan Bhawan on Sunday included Sarpanch Association District Head and Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader Sukhvindra Sarpanch Dundharehari, Panchayati Raj Cell JJP District Head Sardar Balvindra Sarpanch Jaswanti, Dayanand Sarpanch Bhanpura from BJP, Manjeet Sarpanch Balwanti from BJP, among others.

All the sarpanches accused the BJP government of disrespecting village heads and said it was the first government in the state’s history which lathi-charged village leaders.

Surjewala said that the BJP government has committed a crime by snatching away the rights of Sarpanches, snatching the rights of Panchayati Raj institutions, bulldozing the Constitution, imposing the condition of two children in Sarpanch elections, imposing the condition of minimum educational qualification and not holding elections for one and a half years.

In Kaithal, not even a single penny was given for development works in villages, he said, adding that BJP leaders looted through corruption and bribery.

Now there is a need to bring a Congress government again in Haryana so that prosperity of cities and villages can return, he said, adding that development works started during his tenure have not been completed.

In the city, parks and community centre have become dens of liquor mafia and thieves, causing security concerns for sisters and daughters, said Surjewala.

He said that when he was in power none had the courage to commit hooliganism.
