UP: Imposter posing as SI arrested in Jaunpur

Jaunpur (UP), Jan 13 (UNI) An imposter posing as a police sub-inspector was arrested by Rampur police of Jaunpur district here in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, a senior officer said here.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shailendra Singh said that during vehicle checking drive on Jaunpur-Bhadohi road a police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Rampur Divya Prakash Singh spotted an SUV fitted with a red and blue beacon light.

He said that an SI was travelling in the SUV. “When quizzed, the man identified himself as Shailendra Kumar Bharadwaj, a resident of Nawanagar in Buxar district in Bihar. When quizzed strictly the impersonator admitted that he used to roam in the police uniform and extort money from the truck drivers on pretext of checking their papers,” he said.

The ASP said that the accused admitted that he was stopped several times, but he used to get away taking advantage of the uniform and the beacon lights. “The imposter has been arrested. A handset, charger, two mobile phones, 10 Aadhar cards of different places, three stamps, 2 ATM cards, 1 card of Government of India and police uniform was recovered from his possession,” he said.

He said that the imposter has been sent to jail and a team has been sent to arrest his aides.
