New Delhi: Google warned billions of Gmail users to update their passwords following a rise in the number of data breaches.

The tech giant issued a critical security warning to about 2.5 billion of its users to integrate advanced security checkups and protective measures to safeguard their accounts.

On Aug 5, Google published a blog stating the hacker group ‘ShinyHunters’ broke into one of its Salesforce databases that store critical information.

The group ‘ShinyHunters’ is previously also linked to breach attempts at AT&T , Microsoft and Qantas Airlines.

Google said in a statement ” The data retrieved by the threat actor was confined to basic and largely publicly available business information, such as business names and contact details.”

Google recommends steps to protect your Gmail account: Use a unique and complex password for your account.

Users should follow the two-factor authentication (2FA) system by adding an extra layer of security with 2FA or a passkey.

Users can integrate ‘Google Advanced Protection System’ into their Gmail account. It enables extra layers of security to defend against phishing, malware and other sophisticated threats, protecting sensitive and personal information.
