FIR registered against Aakar Patel for provoking US-like protests in India

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police has registered a case against Aakar Patel, former executive director of Amnesty International for a tweet on social media platform Twitter that provoked and instigated people belonging to the minority communities to organise US-like protests in India.

Patel retweeted the tweet of the video clip of the Colorado Times Recorder sh showing thousands of people gathering near Colorado’s Capitol Building to protest against the alleged custodial murder of George Floyd and stated,  “We need protests like these from Dalits, Muslims, Adivasis, poor and women. World will notice. Protest is a craft.”

Patel has been booked under IPC Section 505 (1) (b) (with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or the public tranquillity) 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 117 (abetting commission of an offence by the public or by more than ten persons). 

JC Nagar Police Station has accused the writer with charges of provoking and instigating people belonging to minority communities to organise similar protests across India.
