Tokyo: All India Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who is now in Japan as a part of the all-party delegation of India’s outreach mission, on Friday took time out to visit the Tama Cemetery in the Japanese capital and paid tributes to freedom fighter and national hero, Rash Behari Bose.

Bose was an Indian revolutionary and freedom fighter who fought against the colonial British. He was one of the key organisers of the Ghadar Mutiny and founded the Indian Independence League. Bose also led the Indian National Army which was formed in 1942 under Mohan Singh.

Banerjee also visited the monument dedicated to Justice Radhabinod Pal, a figure of great significance and respect in both Bengal and Japan, at the Yasukuni Shrine and paid floral tributes.

During his official visit to multiple countries, starting with Japan, Banerjee said he paid his respects to Bengal’s icons.

The members of India’s all-party outreach delegation in Japan arrived in Tokyo on Thursday. They called on Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and briefed him about India’s position after the horrific Pahalgam massacre in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22 and the subsequent Operation Sindoor.

The delegation is headed by JD(U)’s Sanjay Jha. The members will continue their outreach mission in Japan before leaving for Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, and Singapore to focus India’s robust mission of zero tolerance towards terrorism at global platforms. India has already declared that any terrorist attack on its soil would be treated as war against the country.
