Former world champion Amanpreet Singh led Friday’s charge, clinching gold in the 25m centre fire pistol, a non-Olympic event. The 38-year-old topped the standings with an impressive 589-24x across precision and rapid rounds, as per Olympics.com.
India completed a clean sweep of the podium in the event, with Gurpreet Singh (584-20x) taking silver and Ankur Goel (570-11x) securing bronze.
The trio also combined to win team gold with a total of 1743-55x, comfortably ahead of Vietnam (1671-38x). Only two teams were eligible for team medals in the event.
In the women’s 50m rifle prone competition, Asian Games champion Sift Kaur Samra claimed silver with a score of 623.2. Kazakhstan’s Yelizaveta Bezrukova edged her for gold with 623.4, while India’s Tejaswini Sawant bagged bronze with 621.0.
Priya Brijpal Singh shot 627.4 to top the field but competed for Ranking Points Only (RPO). Neither the 25m centre fire pistol nor the 50m rifle prone had separate finals.
India also secured gold in the women’s 50m rifle prone team event with an aggregate score of 1862.9. Manini Kaushik, who finished seventh individually, contributed 618.7 to the team tally.
