Aurangzeb’s deification: The un-Islamic ‘pride’ of Indian Muslims

Following the Nagpur violence unleashed by Muslims, apparently protesting against the demolition of the tomb of the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb, it has become explicitly evident that Aurangeb is the new fan-favourite Islamic icon of Muslims in India.

All across social media, Muslims could be seen calling out the idea of demolishing the Mughal emperor’s tomb, along with Muslims hailing the ‘legacy’ of Aurangzeb;, the legacy which is nothing but the persecution of non-Muslims and demolishing Hindu Mandirs.

Similar to what has always been seen in this country after a Muslim mob creates a ruckus or kills someone in broad daylight, the ‘provocation’ card is being played all around. From Muslims to secular liberals of the country, including journalist Rajdeep Sardesai, a number of Aurangzeb supporters could be seen crying foul, stating that ‘backlash’ should be expected if Aurangzeb and sentiments associated with him are targeted!

While some mention the ‘sentiments’ associated with Aurangzeb, as if he were some kind of a saint, other flag bearers of liberalism and secularism are shamelessly and ludicrously blaming actor Vicky Kaushal and his movie Chhava for ‘spreading hatred’.

The bottomline is, like every other time, a movie, an actor, and everything that is nowhere even distantly related to ground reality is being blamed and frowned upon, and the real perpetrators, the Muslim rioters, are not even named while they were being nonchalant while burning a city, and were casually attacking police personnel and disrobed a lady police officer.

And while the Muslims who are questioning the movie Chhava, while their chests swell with pride for the ‘legacy’ that Aurangeb had built, should rather be asked as to what legacy and tradition do you think you all are celebrating? The historical fact is that all those who follow Islam as their religion in this country were converted as the believers of Islam, either through the force of a naked sword or through other behests.

So every time a Muslim says that they are proud of what Aurangzeb did, they should remember that it was their ancestors who were attacked and ripped off their pride by Aurangzeb, it was their ancestors who flipped sides because either they were tired of paying the ‘Jizya’ tax for being non-Muslims originally, or were simply forced to convert their religion because they were scared of the death threats under the Mughal ruler’s despotic regime.

Hindus today should not be ashamed of calling out Aurangzeb or his tyranny, shame should rather stroke the faces of those whose ancestors could not fight for the religion and their freedom when the Mughals placed a sword on their necks.

Also, the present deification of Aurangzeb by the Muslims in India is absurd by all means.

‘Islam strictly forbids the deification of any person, no matter dead or alive, and prohibits the veneration of the dead’, as per Islamic scholar Ammar Saeed; why then, are Muslims busy showcasing their so-called religious sentiments, which do not even stand valid in the eyes of Islam?

The issue at hand is actually not Aurangzeb or a petty tomb of an invader clan’s descendant, he does not even deserve the kind of attention he is receiving currently, Aurangzeb should stay a nobody, as he is; the real question to be dealt seriously with is the vicious hatred which is deeply instilled in crores of Aurangzeb fangirls and fanboys, Aurangzeb or any Mughal for that matter is simply the physical representation of that hatred.

This is the hatred that India needs to lock horns with, the hatred that is gnawing at the very cultural and social ethos of India as a country- Islamic radicalism. The radical thought which cannot even accept the fact that Aurangeb is for India what Hitler was for Germany. As a matter of fact, you would never find a German glorifying Hitler, because no matter what religious beliefs a German carries, they know that Hitler did terrible deeds which cannot and should not be condoned, let alone celebrated.

But in India, which is indeed a rarity, a cruel invader is celebrated like a saint only because he belonged in a particular religion, and the Muslims of this country are simply not ready to remove the blindfold of religious fanaticism, open their eyes, and smell the coffee. In supporting Aurangzeb, Indian Muslims have showcased yet again, how burning cities, attacking police personnel, and spreading venom against non-Muslims is more important that waking up and realising that it was their very own ancestors who were persecuted by Aurangzeb and other individuals like him, and there is not even a drop of pride in this truth, for anyone, no matter whether you are a current-day Hindu or Muslim.
