Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India demanding action against former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for allegedly appointing Chilume to do the work of Block Level Officers (BLOs) in 2017.

“It is astonishing to note in the year 2017 during Siddaramaiah’s Congress government this very same CHILUME NGO was hired by the government to add and delete in voters list. This was unwarranted interference by the Siddaramaiah government in the functioning of the election commission and the Congress is the chief offender of the electoral Registration Rules,” the letter read.

The letter comes ahead of a Congress delegation’s plans to visit the ECI to complain against Chilume and BJP for “illegally” collecting the personal data of the voters.

The BJP said the Congress is illegally trying to interfere with the process of revision of voters which is being undertaken by the state election commission.

Astonishingly, the Congress is threatening and holding to ransom the EC by its baseless allegations, amounting to illegal interference in their affairs, BJP said.

“We request the ECI to register a case against the Congress and its functionaries,” the letter signed by BJP state general secretary N Ravikumar said.

The Congress is accusing the BJP government of giving permission to Chilume to collect voters’ personal data like caste, gender, mobile number etc.

The Karnataka Election Commission however has clarified that it is not possible for deleting the personal data of the voters.

Bengaluru police have arrested 6 people so far including Chilume chief Krishnappa Ravikumar.
