Bengaluru: Advocate Vasant Kumar, representing petitioner Snehamayi Krishna in the ongoing MUDA (Mysore Urban Development Authority) scam, announced that a writ petition has been filed in Karnataka High Court seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case.
This petition comes on the heels of a Special Court’s order directing the Karnataka Lokayukta to investigate allegations of illegalities involving Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the allotment of 14 sites valued at Rs 56 crore to his wife, Parvathi.
Vasant Kumar told a section of media on Saturday, “As an advocate for our client, Snehamayi Krishna, I have filed a writ petition in Karnataka High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the MUDA issue. Although the case has been referred to the Lokayukta for investigation, we are pursuing High Court directions to transfer the case to the CBI to ensure a fair investigation.”
The Special Court mandated that the Karnataka Lokayukta’s Mysuru district police conduct the investigation and submit a report within three months. This order was issued after the Karnataka High Court vacated an interim stay on the case, which had been granted on August 19, effectively allowing the investigation to proceed.
In the midst of these developments, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has faced mounting pressure from the BJP to resign but has refused to step down.
He countered the BJP’s demands by highlighting that there are also FIRs against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others related to the electoral bond issue. “If I should resign due to an FIR, then Sitharaman and others should also step down,” Siddaramaiah argued.
The Chief Minister further stated, “As per 17A, they were asked to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within three months. An FIR has been filed against Nirmala Sitharaman; shouldn’t she also give her resignation?”
He also called for the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, arguing that they have misused electoral bonds.
The matter centers around allegations of corruption and irregularities in land allotment involving the MUDA, raising serious questions about governance and accountability in Karnataka. Further court proceedings are awaited as the investigation unfolds.
