Lucknow: Girl pushed from 4th floor by youth, dies

Lucknow: In a suspected case of love jihad a 19-year-old girl was allegedly pushed from the fourth floor of a building here in the Uttar Pradesh capital, a senior officer said here on Wednesday.

Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Piyush Mordia told reporters that Nidhi Gupta fell from the fourth floor of the residential building in Duda colony in Dubagga area.

“When the family members heard the noise and found the girl lying on the ground floor they rushed her to the trauma center where she was declared dead.”

He said the victim’s family members have alleged that she was pushed by Sufiyan, a resident of Basantpur. “In their complaint they have alleged that Sufiyan was pressuring the girl to marry him after conversion,” he said.

Mordia said a case of murder and under section 3/5 of Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act.

“It has been revealed that Sufiyan visited the trauma center after the incident and has been absconding since then.

“Five teams have been constituted to arrest him. The matter is being investigated thoroughly and from all angles. We will be able to say anything further only after the investigation is complete,” he said.
