A comprehensive free medical camp was inaugurated at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, Baramulla, on November 15, organized to promote accessible healthcare and to commemorate the death anniversary of Blessed Mary of the Passion, Foundress of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, and the 150th Jubilee Year of the Institute.

The camp was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing hope, healing, and service. The ceremony was graced by Dr. A. G. Raina, Chief Medical Officer, Baramulla, who served as the Chief Guest for the event. CMO Baramulla Dr. A. G. Raina shared his insights on St Joseph Hospital’s Services towards health and praised St. Joseph’s Hospital for its ongoing commitment to public welfare.

Fr. Suresh Britto, Principal, St. Joseph School, Baramulla, offered a special prayer and blessing for the success of the initiative. Other distinguished dignitaries present included Dr Deepa, Medical Superintendent, St Joseph Hospital, Sr. Vanitha, Manager-cum-Principal of the School of Nursing; and senior consultants from various medical departments.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Deepa said, ‘Beyond treatment, I want people to be felt, touched and needed. St. Joseph’s hospital is now stretching its service of general and laparoscopic surgery, general medicine, and ophthalmology.’

Addressing the gathering, Sister Simphorosa emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. The camp aims to provide free medical consultations, basic health checkups, and the distribution of essential medicines to ensure that every individual, regardless of background, has access to necessary healthcare services.

The event brought together a dedicated team of medical specialists, including Dr. Sanjeet Singh (Paediatrics), Dr. Pervaiz Majeed (Medicine), Dr. Sheikh Faheem, Dr. Numaan Qadri, and Dr. Asma, whose participation and expertise formed the backbone of the camp. The organizers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, volunteers, sponsors, and the media for their unwavering support. Journalist Amanjeet was also acknowledged for his contribution to coverage and awareness.

The medical camp featured an extensive range of services, including general checkups; specialist consultations like general surgery, ENT, paediatrics, general medicine, gynaecology, and nutrition; free diagnostic tests such as TSH, vitamin D3, haemoglobin, and blood sugar; and distribution of essential medicines.

The hospital encouraged the public to take full advantage of the facilities, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and preventive care.

The ceremony geared up with the official inauguration as Dr. Raina cut the ribbon to declare the medical camp open.

This medical camp stands as a significant step toward building a healthier and more inclusive community, continuing the mission of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary to serve humanity with compassion and dedication.
