Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has ensured free admission of 1,26,293 underprivileged children in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act following the principle of ‘Education is the right of all’, official sources said here on Wednesday.

Sources said that this accounts for 68 percent of the total 1,85,675 allocated seats, reflecting effective implementation of the scheme and strong groundwork.

This initiative is not just about education but also about opportunity, self-reliance and laying the foundation for a brighter future for UP, officials said.

Sources said the transparent process was conducted in four phases, during which 3,34,953 applications were received. “Out of these, 2,52,269 applications were approved, which is 75 per cent of the total.

From the approved list, 1,85,675 children were allotted schools and so far, over 1.26 lakh children have been successfully enrolled. This achievement is a significant step towards integrating the deprived sections of society into the mainstream education system.

UP’s Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said, “This is not just a figure of enrollments, it is a ray of hope in the dreams of poor families. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, we are strengthening the foundation of social justice in the field of education. The government’s aim is to ensure that every child, regardless of their social or economic background, has access to quality education.”

Sources said that several districts in the state have shown remarkable performance. “This success was made possible due to the promptness of local administrations, close monitoring by the Basic Education Department and active public participation,” they said.

Sources said that the top-performing districts include Basti (94 per cent), Lalitpur and Firozabad (93 per cent), Balrampur and Pratapgarh (92 per cent), Shravasti and Hardoi (91 per cent) and Etah, Deoria and Jaunpur (88 per cent).
