Chennai: Flaying the Centre of neglecting the interests of TamilNadu, Chief Minister and
DMK President M.K.Stalin charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with seeking votes of the people ahead of the Lok Sabha polls by frequently visiting the State to retain power without releasing single paise towards flood relief and neglecting the genuine demands of by the state.

Speaking after distributing various welfare measures to the people in Mayiladuthurai district, he said Mr Modi’s ploy will not work and the people will not get decieved by such tactics.

The Prime Miniser is visiting the state frequently only with an eye on the Lok Sabha polls.

“Let him visit. We are not bothered. But first, let the Centre release funds sought by the State for flood relief (Rs 37,000 crore) and then visit to seek votes”, he said.

“The Prime Minister can visit the State, but at the same time, he should consider the genuine demands put forth by the State government. They (the BJP government at the Centre) neglected our request to release Rs 37,000 crore towards flood relief following the two disasters (in Chennai and three neighbouring districts followed by unprecedented rains in southern districts of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi) in December last year”, Mr Stalin noted.

“Not even a single rupee was released, but they want the taxes and votes from Tamil Nadu in order to to retain power,” Mr. Stalin alleged.

“But they cannot deceive the people of Tamil Nadu who always stand on the side of the ‘Dravidian Model’ government that works for the rights and development of the State,” he added.

After virtually inaugurating nearly 70 several completed projects at a total cost Rs 308.88 crore and laying the foundation stone for 40 new projects at a cost of Rs 80.62 crore in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts, he also distributed welfare assistance to 12,653 beneficiaries at a cost of Rs 143.46 crore under various schemes.

In an unique initiative, Mr Stalin said the ruling DMK said, has been implementing various schemes to benefit every family in the State. “To ensure their proper implementation, a new initiative, ‘Neengal Nalama’ will be launched on March 6. Under the scheme, the Chief Minister, Ministers, Secretaries and District Collectors will interact with beneficiaries through phone calls to get their feedback on various schemes and services offered by the government for further improvement,” he added.
