Mumbai: Maharashtra Labour Minister Dr Suresh Khade has given a direction that hospitals of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in the state should be transferred to the Labour Department immediately so that they can be operated by the Labour Department.

Presiding over 114th meeting of the Regional Board of Maharashtra Region of ESIC at Mantralaya here on Thursday, he said that ESIC hospitals are being run very well by Labour Department in other states.

He further said that ESIC hospitals in the state should be like super specialty hospitals, treating all diseases.

Also, they should be connected with the medical college in the district, he pointed.

A proposal for filling up of 156 doctor vacancies in hospital has been sent to the Maharashtra Public Service Commission, the minister said.

Since Hingoli and Nandurbar have adequate number of employees, a proposal be submitted to get space from the government to start clinics in these two districts, he said.

If government space is not available, hospitals should be started by renting the building, added Dr Khade.
