Sleeping is becoming a major problem all across the globe. 1 out of every 8 people is troubled with sleeplessness, and as a result of the sleep getting disturbed during nighttime, days are getting spoilt too and productivity is deteriorating as well. Aric A. Prather, author of the book, ‘The Sleep Prescription’, has said that sound sleep makes people creative and kind. On top of that, it also helps one in becoming a good parent and a good life-partner. In his book, Aric has discussed a number of scientific ways to facilitate a better sleep without the use of medicines.

It has been suggested that writing down your worries at any time of the day or right before sleeping will ensure that the problems do not get the best of your brain while you are trying to get some sleep. It is suggested to write down the problems, and there is no need of writing the solutions. The book further says that many a times, our sleep is disturbed because of us sleeping in the same place and in the same position, and hence, if one cannot change the place they sleep in, they should try changing the direction they sleep in. The room’s interiors can also be changed.

In order to get a sound sleep, one is advised to eat nutritious and light food during the evening, and go for a walk. Listening to music is also beneficial, along with spending time with plants in your garden, cleaning your book shelfs, and talking to and spending time with your friends and family members. Along with this, it is suggested not to keep your laptops and computers in the bedroom, and while sleeping, you should keep your room cool and dark, as bright lights will not let you sleep. The use of sleep-masks can be further helpful.

Most importantly, do not treat your brain like a laptop, it is crucial for the mind to be at peace for sleeping properly. After you are done with your work, you should give time to your own self, and watch your favourite old TV shows. If you are unable to fall asleep even after 20 minutes after getting in bed, get up, and walk in your house or on the terrace, you can also read books. Stay away from tea and coffee, especially from 6 hours before the time you go to bed.
