In Canada, the permission of euthanasia is now becoming a menace. Last year, that is during 2021 only, more than 10 thousand people gave up their lives through euthanasia, which is more than 3% of the total deaths reported in the country. Now, after four months, that is in March, 2023, mentally ill patients will also get the permission of legal euthanasia, under which minors will also have a right to euthanasia.

In the wake of such a large number of euthanasia deaths, Ross Douthat, author, ‘The Deep Places: A Memoir of Illness and Discovery’, has said that when 10 thousand people are giving up their lives through euthanasia in a year, then the permission of euthanasia does not remain to be the sign of a civil society, instead, it becomes a state of terror. Nevertheless, majority of people in Canada are in favour of euthanasia, and are of the opinion that along with living with dignity, dying with dignity is also the right of humans.

In her report, Maria Cheng of the Associated Press, has said that health officials are suggesting euthanasia also to people who are stressed due to financial crisis, and have started thinking about suicide. Ross Douthat has also stated that this is inherently a destructive thought process, and if it is left as it is, this will create such a brave society in the coming times that will consider death better than living, and this will prove to be the last chapter of humanity.
