On Sunday, Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, said that at least 40 armed terrorists from Kuki militant outfits have been killed by the security forces in the violence-stricken state of Manipur in a massive crackdown in the last 3-4 days. On Saturday night, incidents of fresh violence were reported with reports of firing and arson, and four civilians and one para-military personnel lost their lives. As per government officials, operations against the armed terrorists is still going on and hence, the casualty figures can increase.

Singh added, “State police have been conducting operations in vulnerable areas. In retaliatory and defensive operations against these terrorist groups who are using sophisticated arms against the civilian population, around 40 terrorists have been killed in different areas and a few arrested by the security forces”.

And while Kuki terrorists are involved in violence all over the state of Manipur, Kuki groups have criticised CM N Biren Singh’s claims and said that this crackdown was to ‘attack their community’.

The Manipur CM has also appealed people from all communities to not come out on the roads so that there is no disruption in the movement of the security forces and commandoes. He added that he has given a free hand to the police personnel of the state to act against anyone seen involved in violence.
