45% of the citizens of the USA believe that the country should be declared as a ‘Christian nation’, and this opinion has come to the fore through a survey conducted by the Pew research centre. In the survey, it was found out that more than 4 of every 10 Americans were in favour of the idea. 63% of the people aged 65 or more sided with the idea of the ‘Christian nation’, while only 23% of people in the age group of 18 to 29 supported it.

On the other hand, 51% of people still want to see the USA as a secular country. As per the repot, 60% Americans believe that the country’s foundation was laid for it to be a Christian nation but it changed later on. 1/3rd or 33% people are of the opinion that even today, the USA is a Christian nation. Nevertheless, 67% believe that churches and religious centres should stay away from political matters, even though the issue of ‘Christian nationalism’ is going to take the center-stage during the mid-term elections to be held next month.

Many close accomplices of the former President of the USA, Donald Trump are believed to be supporters of the ‘Christian nation’ idea. Among such supporters are his former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, and the candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania, Doug Mastriano. Around 67% of the people who support ‘Christian Nationalism’ are associated with the Republican Party, while 29% of them are associated with the Democrats. Still, there is a large group of leaders among the Republicans who do not support the idea.
