The US National Intelligence Agency has estimated that till the year 2040, almost all the countries will not be able to achieve the target of limiting the temperatures, and a flood of a large number of homeless people from central American and Caribbean nations will hit the USA. A warning has been issued stating that 15 threats related to the environment will adversely affect the cause of the USA in foreign nations.
Out of the 15, 7 perilous situations will emerge in the disadvantaged countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. From more than the last 100 years, rich countries have been releasing carbon dioxide limitlessly. Laurence Tubiana of the European Climate Foundation is of the opinion that everyone is talking of moral responsibilities currently, but they are equally forgetful of such responsibilities as well.
Tubiana added that developed countries, especially the European countries and the USA comprise a very small portion of the global population, but they are responsible for 79% of the emissions, despite this, the effects of environmental changes are faced by poor countries, so much so that by the year 2040, the loss borne by them will reach more than 82 lakh crore rupees. The rich countries did not completely fulfill their promise of assisting the poor nations. The rich countries had pledged to help the poor ones with 8 lakh crore rupees every year starting from 2020, in order for them to deal with the effects of environmental changes.
A plethora of dangers are associated with ignoring the effects of environmental change. In eastern Africa, in every 36 seconds, one person loses their life due to drought. With the floods hitting Bangladesh every year, 25% of the country is submerged under water. The share of the African continent in global emissions is only 3%, but it is facing the dangers of floods, droughts, and the destruction of the coastal areas. Due to the effects of environmental change, the continent’s per capita GDP is facing an annual loss of 15%, and according to panels of governments, many small island countries will get submerged under water due to global warming.
