A lack of teachers in government colleges across the state of Rajasthan is affecting students adversely. Even though we are almost halfway through the month of September, the positive effects of the Rajasthan Vidya Sambal Yojana are not many. Till now too, not all colleges have got teachers under the scheme.
Not only the teacher-student ratio is messed up, courses are also getting delayed. Even after the initiation of the Vidya Sambal Yojana, more than 80 government colleges in the state are dependent on merely 1 teacher each! And while admissions to these institutions have started, there is no one to teach subjects to the students. In this session of the budget announcement, 87 new colleges have been set up, after which the state now has a total of 459 government colleges, and the enrolment is around 5.20 lakhs.
With this, the state government wants to operate the 163 colleges which were set up in the last 3 years, on ‘society mode’. The announcement of the society was made a year ago, and in July, the government had issued directions regarding the society. But till now, the society is nowhere to be seen! The announcement made was for the Rajasthan College Education Society (RAJCES), which stated that in the new colleges, posts will be created under the society itself and the college will be operated fully by the society. It was also announced that the society governing body will include the Higher Education Minister and the Secretary.
Recently, the College Commissionerate approved 40 panels to post teachers in the various colleges of the state, under the Vidya Sambal Yojana. The names of 323 teachers have been approved by these 40 panels till now, out of whom 186 will be able to teach. Other than this, 1069 candidates who fought court cases for their appointment will also be posted. In the meantime, the appointment of teachers is getting delayed in many other institutions.
The Vidya Sambal Yojana was initiated by the Rajasthan government in order to combat the shortage of teaching faculty in the state, with its prime objective being the recruitment of teachers and lecturers in government institutions.
