Kohima: Indian Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the Narendra Modi Government of not having the political will to implement the agreed solutions and claimed that the announcement of the “Framework Agreement” to resolve the Naga issue in 2015 has turned out to be an ‘empty boast’ of the Modi Government as there has been no progress on the issue in the last eight years.

According to party sources on Wednesday addressing a pubic rally at Diphupar Village Ground in Dimapur on Tuesday Kharge pointed out that the BJP did not even mention the issue in its election manifesto, as against the Congress party which has made the issue one of its top commitments.

He mentioned that Prime Minister Modi had on August 2019 given a three-month deadline for peaceful resolution of Naga political issue, to which then Governor R N Ravi had responded by saying that it was long enough duration to conclude the issue.

He also charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “cheating” the people of Nagaland and the country by failing to resolve the long-standing Naga political issue.

On the civil society groups like the All Nagaland Gaon Burah Federation, who had called for the implementation of political solutions, the present State Government is allegedly engaging in delaying tactics by claiming that more talks are needed, he said.

The Congress party would take some concrete steps to develop the region, including providing a mini-secretariat, a Directorate of School Education, and relocating the Department of Under Developed Areas to Tuensang, he assured.

Kharge further highlighted various issues that are plaguing the state of Nagaland, including lack of development, corruption, scams and neglect of Eastern Nagaland and charged that for the last 20 years, NDPP, NPF and BJP together looted the state of Nagaland, “so it is high time now for the people of Nagaland to get the justice and a Government that actually works for the people.”

Several prominent leaders including AICC in-charge for Nagaland Dr. Ajoy Kumar, AICC General Secretary and Member of Parliament Mukul Wasnik, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President K Therie and former chief minister, KL Chishi also spoke in the meeting, sources said.
