Annual Baba Chamliyal Mela along Indo-Pak border on June 22 in J&K’s Samba

Samba: The annual Baba Chamliyal Mela being organised along Indo-Pak International Border is to be celebrated on June 22 in Ramgarh sector of Samba district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The mela is organised by the District Administration Samba and the Border Security Force every year at the shrine of Baba Dalip Singh Manhas, popularly known as ‘Baba Chamliyal’, near the village of Chamliyal in Samba district.

Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma on Tuesday reviewed the preparations for the upcoming annual mela at Baba Chamliyal Shrine here at a meeting.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for well-planned arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the mela.

The officials from the Roads and Buildings department were directed to prioritize the blacktopping of all major roads leading to the shrine well in advance of the event.

Additionally, repair and improvement works were advised to enhance the convenience of the devotees visiting the shrines. Uninterrupted water supply was also stressed upon.

He emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts by all concerned departments to ensure timely and efficient arrangements for the mela.

The DC addressed the BSF authorities regarding the removal of bund near the shrine to facilitate the expansion of services.

Security arrangements, as well as preparedness related to Fire and Emergency Services and traffic regulation, were also reviewed during the meeting.

The revered shrine is on Zero Line just 200 meters away from the Indo-Pak International Border while its distance from Jammu is around 45 kilometers.

Around 324 years old ‘Chamliyal Mela’, which is celebrated every year on fourth Thursday in the month of June with equal zeal and enthusiasm on both sides of the International Border, about 600 yards apart, one being at Chamliyal on Indian side, and the other at Saidanwali village of Sialkot district in Pakistan.
