Annual Urs of Dastageer Sahib celebrated in Kashmir

Srinagar: The Annual Urs of famous Sufi saint Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA), popularly known as “Peer Dastageer Sahab” is being celebrated in Kashmir Valley with religious fervor and gaiety.

Thousands of devotees from various parts of the Kashmir valley thronged to the shrines of Dastigeer Sahib at Khanyar and Sarai Bala in Srinagar to participate in the ceremonies of Urs on Monday.

A large number of devotees including men and women participated in the night long prayers “Shab Khawani” at Dastageer Sahib Shrine at KHanyar on Sunday during which special prayers were held for the peace, stability and prosperity of the Kashmir valley and the whole world.

At Khanyar in downtown Srinagar the holy relic of the saint was displayed before a large number of devotees amid wet weather conditions after the Fajr Namaz.

The holy relic would be on display for two days after every prayer at the shrine. Similar function was also held at Sarai Bala in Srinagar.

Chairperson Waqf Board Jammu and Kashmir Darakhshan Andrabi visited the holy shrine of Dastageer Sahib at Khanyar and paid obeisance there. She also took stock of the arrangements in place by the authorities for the visiting devotees.
